Following on from ‘Waning‘ I wanted to keep looking at light hearted moments of joy away from all the heaviness of the rest of my works. This piece was my reprieve and a nod to all I have been and all I have become.
As a young child I would have bouts of sadness where I would sit in my room crying and repeating ‘I want to go home’ over and over to myself. I didn’t know what that meant, even then. I was already home so where did I want to go?
Fast forward to my teenage years where I had discovered and lost myself in the magic that was “Sailor Moon”. Many a night I would sit on the roof of the car port, look up at the sky and dream that I was from the Moon Kingdom and one day they would come and take me home. In the whimsy of my teenage years I told myself that I must have subconsciously meant ‘The Moon Kingdom’ when I would rock myself and say ‘I want to go home’. I knew it wasn’t true but I loved to day dream more than I cared to be in reality. My daydreams are some of my fondest memories.
In ‘Homecoming’ I haven’t just created the Sailor Moon of my youth, I have taken some of my vintage style inspirations and brought her into my here and now. She is grown up but she will always be that day dreaming child, for better or worse.
